The Accredited Medical Equipment Providers of America, AMEPA, has been established by providers for providers. Our primary focus is on the Accredited Providers injured by the round-one competitive bidding process. We are also assisting companies involved in the next round of 70 MSAs and beyond. We are working closely with VGM, AA Homecare, state/regional associations, and other industry leaders responding to the current crisis.

Since March 21, 2008, informal meetings of Disqualified Bidders, Non-Winning Bidders and Winning Bidders with unfavorable futures were held in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. On April 10, 2008, exactly one year after the final rules for Round 1 of the Competitive Bidding began, AMEPA held our Inaugural Meeting. Over one hundred new members joined that day. DME providers also traveled from cities in the next 70 MSAs including Port St Lucie, Melbourne and Tampa. Industry leaders Ron Bendell, President of VGM and Karen Kazmareck a Board Member from AA Homecare addressed the audience and answered questions. The organization has been obtaining members since it was incorporated in March.

Our organization is in process of hiring a national law firm to file suit in Washington, D.C. We have opened a legal fund to pay for the upcoming litigation. This suit is intended to stop the upcoming implementation of the program, scheduled to begin on July 1st.

We are urging all Accredited Providers to contact their Senators and Members of Congress and tell them to stop the competitive bidding program which will not only be a danger to patients but also to business owners, employees, their families and the economy. Your U.S. Senators can be reached at www.senate.gov and U.S. Representatives at www.house.gov

The current members of the AMEPA Board are disqualified bidders and bid winners from the Miami, Orlando, and Dallas MSAs. Ancillary businesses are represented by a Medical Equipment Billing Administrator and an Independent Manufacturer’s Representative who will also be negatively affected by competitive bidding. The By-Laws allow for additional Board members to be included as membership expands into other regional areas.
